Community Christmas Hamper Campaign delivers the goods

After months of meetings, weeks of recruiting volunteers and collecting food and monetary donations, plus days of sorting and packing, members of the English-speaking community of the Quebec City area delivered Christmas hampers (boxes of groceries and vouchers) to 205 households on Dec. 15.

Our eight-year-old daughter was looking anxiously at the big boxes in the back of the van. Her big brother was earnestly reading aloud the address of the recipient. They were both so excited about the idea of delivering these goodies to strangers.

MAtv launch documentary on Château Frontenac’s 125th anniversary

On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Château Frontenac, former general manager Robert Mercure proposed to MAtv Québec that it produce a documentary series relating the history of the famous hotel, including the prestigious site where it is located.

SNACS Book Fair a literary success!

Quebec City’s annual English-language book fair, run for the first time by SNACS (Special Needs Activities & Community Services) Entrepreneurs after eight decades of stewardship by the Quebec City Women’s Club, attracted quite a crowd looking for some extra reading material for the dark and dreary winter months.

Holocaust survivor Eva Olsson shares her life story

You could have heard a pin drop in the crowded auditorium of CEGEP Champlain-St. Lawrence on Oct. 24, as Eva Olsson, renowned author, Order of Ontario recipient and one of the few living Holocaust survivors, talked about her life as a young woman in war-torn Europe in the mid-1940s.

Voice of English-speaking Quebec (VEQ)’s annual Fall Fest is always a much-anticipated event for the members of the anglophone community. Once again this year, Mother Nature smiled down on those who gathered at St. Vincent Elementary School’s gymnasium and playground on a bright, sunny Saturday, Sept. 15.
