2016 Défilé de la Saint-Patrick an “ode to spring”

The seventh annual Défilé de la Saint-Patrick paraded into Old Quebec City on Saturday, March 19, charming the thousands of residents and visitors who crowded the sidewalks all the way from Avenue Cartier to Quebec City Hall and Place d’Youville. The parade also ushered in spring, which officially began the next day, March 20, at 12:30 a.m. EDT.

The seventh Defilé de la Saint-Patrick, Quebec City’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, will take place on Saturday, March 19, starting at 1:30pm. From St. Patrick’s High School to Porte Saint-Jean, all are invited to come celebrate the continued impact of Irish immigrants on our beautiful city by proudly displaying a touch of green.

Quebec City’s seventh annual Défilé de la Saint-Patrick / St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Saturday, March 19, departing from St. Patrick’s High School on Rue de Maisonneuve at 1:30 p.m.

The Pride of Shannon were perfecting their “Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ral (That’s An Irish Lullaby)” and the Shannon Dancers were tapping their toes to the beat of a bodhran last Saturday morning as they rehearsed for the upcoming Shannon Irish Show.

The auditorium of St. Patrick’s High School was buzzing with activity last Saturday morning as the cast of Grosse Île: Une histoire chorale gathered to rehearse the historical musical about the Irish immigrants who landed at Grosse Île in the mid-1800s.

Mix of old and new at 2016 Quebec Winter Carnival

At the press conference announcing this year’s Quebec Winter Carnival programming, two teams faced off at Baie de Beauport to pelt each other in an exhibition game of yukigassen, the Japanese sport of organized snowball fighting. The game is one of several new activities that will be part of this year’s Carnival.

Former Quebec City Mayor Jean-Paul L’Allier died on Tuesday, January 5, following a brief illness. A civic funeral will be held on Saturday, January 9, at 2:00 p.m. at the Basilica-Cathedral Notre-Dame de Québec. There will be a limited number of seats available to the public.
