Newcomer to Quebec City from California fits in and finds warmth even in the cold of winter

In spite of Quebec City's frigid winters, Herb Goss said he has received a warm welcome from the city he now calls home.

The former Hollywood screenwriter moved from sunny Los Angeles three months ago to take a job as the senior writer for Longtail Studios, a videogame design company in the St. Roch commercial district.

Few would notice that among the half dozen British 32-pounder cannons lining the Dufferin Terrace, two are Russian-made.

Two of the cannons bear the coat of arms of the Romanoffs, the Imperial family of Russia deposed during revolution in 1917, while the others bear the coat of arms of British King George III.

Old clothes cramp closets, hold memories

I wonder whether all people my age have the same problems I do.

My closets are absolutely cramped and full.

It doesn't help to have great wooden or padded hangers taking up space, but the alternative is wire freebies from the cleaners which encourage all your clothes to fall off and sit in a great heap.

Deep-sea fishing trawlers should not be allowed back into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence

The Office des pêcheurs de flétan du Groenland du Québec (Office of Greenland Turbot Fisherman of Quebec) is worried about a decision by Fisheries and Oceans Canada to allow trawlers back into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence for deep-sea fishing.

According to comments by the ministry's representatives, all is set for the return of these boats with mobile gear

The ninth annual Révélations art exhibit at the Jeffery Hale Hospital and Pavillion drew 500 people through it's doors from Sunday to Tuesday. The event exhibits and sells the paintings, photographs and crafts of clients of The Jeffery Hale Friends' Foundation, as well as those of patients, residents and employees and their family members at St.Brigid's-Jeffery Hale Hospital.
