New catchment areas for Ste-Foy Elementary

Same criteria for Secondary I students headed for QHS, St. Pat’s

Parents of students headed for Quebec High School and St. Patrick’s High need to make sure they get their registration forms in on time to ensure their children get a shot at the high school of their choice next fall.

Godin to head St-Foy School

Denise Godin will take on the job of principal of Ste-Foy Elementary School. She will succeed Micheline Gagné who officially begins at Everest as principal on February 1.

Godin currently occupies the position of special needs consultant at the Central Québec School Board. Previously she held the post of staff assistant and before that Godin taught at Ste-Foy Elementary.

Donnelly steps down from VEQ Klassen takes on job

Voice of English-speaking Québec (VEQ) president Bob Donnelly has resigned. Donnelly has been wearing two rather large hats since being elected president of the Quebec Community Groups Network last June. He will remain a member of the executive.

A military funeral for Warrant Officer Hani Massouh will be held on Thursday, January 17 at 2 p.m. at Saint-Charles-Garnier Church, 1215, Chanoine-Morel Avenue, at the intersection of Blvd. Laurier.

Massouh died in Afghanistan on January 6.

WestJest to operate out of Quebec City as of May

WestJet Airlines is making Quebec City more accessible to western Canadians. The Calgary-based company announced this week that it would be adding Quebec’s capital to its roster of destinations. As of May 18, the airline’s schedule will be augmented with a daily flight from Edmonton to Quebec City (with a stopover in Toronto).

Valcartier loses Renaud in bomb attack

Canadian Trooper Richard Renaud, 26, was killed in the early morning of Tuesday, January 22, when the vehicle he was riding in was involved in a roadside bomb attack.

Another soldier was injured in the same incident. Two other soldiers were unharmed.

The armoured vehicle in which Renaud and his fellow soldiers were riding was part of a group patrol.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity runs from January 20 to 27, and will be celebrated at various locations throughout the city. Most of the activities are in French, with the exception of the hymn sing at Saint Brigid’s Home. The week is organized by the Interdenominational Council of Greater Quebec.
