The Quebec City Magic Festival leaves audiences spellbound

The Quebec City Magic Festival, held at the Palais Montcalm and with pop-up shows in the Petit Champlain district, left audiences spellbound on the weekend of May 3 to 6.

The Cirque Éloize brings the Wild West to town

The Cirque Éloize rode into town on May 7 to give a spectacular performance at the Salle Albert-Rousseau. The cast of singers, dancers and gymnasts blended music, song and dance, juggling and puppetry with acrobatic performances on the Chinese Pole, Cyr Wheel and trapeze. Colourful characters swung from the rafters of the large wooden set.

Festival Opéra de Québec announces 2018 summer program

The Quebec Opera Company is just days away from presenting their spring production of Bizet’s Carmen at the Grand Théâtre (May 12 to 19), but they are already preparing for the eighth Festival Opéra de Québec, which will take place from July 24 to Aug. 6.

SLC students strut their stuff at fashion show

The fashionistas of CEGEP Champlain-St. Lawrence (SLC) were present at the Musée de la Civilisation on April 28 for the annual fashion show. Students were organizers and models. Many of their friends and family cheered, especially when they walked the runway in eye-catching sportswear or in haute couture outfits.

Brahms’ German Requiem a balm for those who are grieving

The Orchestre Symphonique de Québec (OSQ) and its choir filled the Grand Théâtre with strong emotions on the evening of April 25. The audience listened intently to two tempestuous pieces by German composer Johannes Brahms: Begräbnisgesang (Funeral Hymn) which was immediately followed by A German Requiem (sung in German instead of the usual Latin).

Dave Gunning is no stranger to Quebec City. Over the last four years, he has stopped by Quebec High School three times to work with the music concentration students, teaching about songwriting and guitar playing and discussing life as a professional musician.

What is being vegan? Veganism is the practice of abstaining completely from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and adopting an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A follower of either the diet or the philosophy is known as a vegan.

The 8th annual Festival de Magie de Québec (Quebec City Magic Festival) will take place from May 3 to 6. Lovers of magic of all ages will have the opportunity to see more than 50 shows, 35 of which are free, presented by internationally acclaimed magicians from Canada, the United States, Spain, France and England. A new competition for young magicians will reveal some surprises.
