OBITUARY

Peter Lent MARSHALL
1928-2026
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Peter Lent Marshall, born on April 28, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, the only son of Lester Lent Marshall of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Rosanna Thompson of Manchester, England. Peter was christened at the Manchester Cathedral, a detail he liked to mention with a grin, as if it added a touch of royal charm to his story.
In 1935, the Marshall family moved to Quebec City, where Peter attended Quebec High School. He later completed a business administration course with ICS, setting the foundation for a long and accomplished professional life.
In 1949, Peter and Helen moved to Arvida, beginning a new chapter filled with work, community and family. Before joining Alcan, Peter worked at Pibrac, Portage-des-Roches, Chute-à-Gorge and Savane. In 1954, he was hired at Alcan International as a spectrochemical technician, eventually building a remarkable 34-year career and retiring as Senior Buyer—a role he carried out with dedication, integrity, and his trademark good humour.
But Peter’s best years were not defined only by work—they were lived in the community he loved. He gave his time generously and joyfully, leaving a legacy of service that touched countless lives. Among his many contributions:
President, L’Académie de ballet de Chicoutimi
Church Warden, Anglican Church of Arvida
Vice-President, St. Vincent de Paul Society
Founding President, Alcan Social Club
Vice-President, Red Cross Blood Clinics
Mason, District Deputy Grand Master, District of Quebec and Trois-Rivières
Chairman, Eastern Quebec Regional School Board
Consultant, Remac Industries Inc., Chicoutimi
Peter was funny, quick-witted, charming and deeply lovable. He had a sharp sense of humour, a playful spirit and a natural ability to make people smile. He loved parties, champagne, lively conversations and the little jokes that made everyday moments brighter. He loved women too—always respectfully, with a wink, never inappropriate. Everyone knew it was part of his charm.
He adored train rides, long road trips, spontaneous adventures and the kind of journeys that become family stories. He loved shopping and choosing beautiful gifts, especially jewelry, for his girls. He had a huge heart and a special tenderness for his two sons, with whom he loved spending time any day of the week. In Helen’s family, Teresa held a special place, as Peter and Helen considered her one of their own.
Peter leaves behind his children: Allan (deceased), Jo-Anne, Marilyn (Timothy Hill), Christine, Nanette (Daniel Bouchard), and Lester; his grandchildren Nicholas Proulx; Jeffery, Jonathan, and Kelly-Anne Garron; Heather and Caroline Marshall; Emmeline Marshall-Hill; Elisabeth and Tim Hill; and Joshua Auger; and his great-grandchildren Ella, Ollie, Katarina, Max, Arlo, Lily, Theo, Keira and Nicholas. He also leaves his goddaughters Betsy Gravel and Lynn Morpak, as well as many nieces and nephews he had the pleasure of knowing personally. Peter remained close to his lifelong friends Dawson (deceased) and Edith Pednault.
Peter was appreciated by everyone. His brothers-in-law shared unforgettable moments with him: fishing trips and boat rides with Brian; long evenings side by side with Alex; beers in the kitchen and memories of Lake Saint‑John with Lance; plans, reservations, and welcoming visits thanks to Desmond; trips to Nova Scotia and Ottawa with Wilf; oysters and fresh fish year after year with Robert; and delicious meals and laughter with Larry in British Columbia. His sisters‑in‑law enjoyed his company just as much. Peter was easy to love, easy to welcome, easy to keep close.
We celebrate his rich life filled with laughter, travel, family, champagne, festivities, little mischiefs and great tenderness. He was surrounded, loved, respected, and wonderfully cared for right to the end. We will carry him in our hearts every day, just as we already carry Mom.
We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the support team who accompanied Peter with such care and humanity: Dr. François Dubé (IUCPQ), Louise Fortin (Jeffery Hale Home Support), Sabrina Dubé (home nurse), Justine Gauthier Deschênes (PhysioMoveo), Maïka Savard (PhysioMoveo). Each of them showed remarkable kindness, compassion and genuine humanity throughout their time with him.
He now joins those he loved deeply—his wife Helen, his son Allan, and Leroy, the devoted family dog who is surely already running toward him. See you again someday, Dad. Give Allan, Mom and Leroy a hug from us.
