OBITUARY

James Oman
1935-2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Oman on Sept. 20, 2026, at the age of 90, peacefully at Saint Brigid’s Home.
Born in Toronto to the late David Oman and the late Marjorie Parsonson, James joined the Canadian Air Force in his twenties. One of his early postings brought him to Canadian Forces Base Valcartier (CFB Valcartier), where he trained as a radar technician. He went on to spend the majority of his distinguished career working at the Defence Research Establishment Valcartier (CARDE/DREV).
He was the beloved husband of Margaret Cardinal, with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage; loving father of Gary (Sharon), Cheryl and Laurie and cherished grandfather of Alexandra.
He is survived by his sister Carol (Allan Doyon). He was predeceased by his brothers and sister: David (late Anne), Robert (late Helen) and Sharon. He will also be fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from the Cardinal family: Joan (late Ray), Nancy (late Denis Roy) and Jimmy, as well as many extended family members, cousins, nephews, nieces and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at noon at Trinity Church (2687 Ch. Quatre-Bourgeois, Quebec City), where the family will receive condolences beginning at 11 a.m. A small reception/luncheon will follow. James’ ashes will be interred at Mount Hermon Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Saint Brigid’s Home for the excellent care provided. Thanks also to the outstanding staff of the Jeffery Hale day centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations in James’ memory may be made to The Friends of Jeffery Hale – Saint Brigid’s Foundation (amisdujhsb.ca).
