Award-winning violinist Evan Shi and members of the Meslanges a cappella quartet – Marie Magistry, Marie-Andrée Mathieu, Haitham Haidar and William Kraushaar – gave an outstanding concert at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity on Feb. 2. Shi opened with “Madame Ramsay, l’heureuse,” an extract from 3 Mesdames by Cristina Mondiru. The quartet then delighted the attentive audience with an assortment of polyphonic a cappella songs from the Renaissance to the 20th century on the theme of nature set to music by great French composers. From “Bonjour mon coeur” by Roland de Lassus to “Chansons de Charles d’Orléans” by Claude Debussy, ending with “Yver, vous n’êtes qu’un vilain,” the singers held the audience spellbound with their delicious harmonies and unique voices.
