Will Smith’s solo home run in the 11th inning of game seven gave the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5-4 victory in the seventh game of the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, just past midnight on Nov. 2. The Jays were two outs away from their first banner since 1993 when utility infielder Miguel Rojas tied the game at 4-4 in the ninth inning. Ironically, Smith is the second Dodger wearing no. 16 to end a Canadian team’s title hopes. In 1981, Rick Monday hit a home run off the Expos’ Steve Rogers in the ninth inning to give Los Angeles a 2-1 victory and eliminate Montreal in the National League championship series.
