EYE ON SPORTS: Canada tramples defending champions New Zealand at Rugby World Cup…
Canada scored the game’s first 17 points and never looked back as they defeated defending champions New Zealand 34-19 on Sept. 19 in the semifinals of the women’s Rugby World Cup in Twickenham, England. Former Rouge et Or and CRQ player, Justine Pelletier (photo) was named player of the match. Pelletier scored the game’s first try as well as orchestrating a great play that ended with a try by teammate Sophie de Goede in the 35th minute. Canada, ranked second in the world, will meet the host team and current world leader, England, in the title game on Sept. 27. England reached the final with a 35-17 win over France.
