ouisa Blair (in red snow pants and tuque) plays the accordion at an outdoor service in front of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Old Quebec on Jan. 23. Due to public health restrictions, places of worship in Quebec have been unable to hold regular indoor services since December. That hasn’t stopped these hardy congregants from Holy Trinity and St. Michael’s Church in Sillery, who have worshipped together outdoors in the shadow of the cathedral for the last four Sundays. “I love the music, the singing, the people, the people together, the seeing of the people in the flesh (albeit the frozen flesh), the simplicity of it, the sharing of prayers, the beauty of the surroundings with the hundreds-of-years-old trees and the fresh snow, the fire which is like the heart of God burning for love of us when the world is cold and we are lonely and COVID is raging,” Blair told the QCT.

This mural titled Cohabiter on the back of the Théâtre de La Bordée is a reference to the construction that has been ongoing in the Saint-Roch district for many months, forcing construction workers, drivers, cyclists, residents and businesses to cohabitate despite the inconvenience of noise and reduced access to sidewalks and streets. Cohabiter can be seen until spring from the corner of Boulevard Charest and Rue Dorchester.
