This imposing statue of Samuel de Champlain was inaugurated on Sept. 21, 1898, under the chairmanship of the Governor General of Canada, Lord John Campbell Hamilton-Gordon Aberdeen, accompanied by the Prime Minister of Canada, Wilfrid Laurier, the Premier of Quebec, Félix-Gabriel Marchand and the Lieutenant-Governor, Louis-Amable Jetté.
