Michael Audain bids farewell to Chatterie, one of the eight paintings by Paul-Émile
Borduas which he and his wife Yoshiko Karasawa donated to the MNBAQ. A quote by
Borduas in the description beside the painting reads, “In the end, the element of the
world that seems to me most permanent, the only one perhaps, is paint, physical paint,
material, substance. That is my homeland, my earth. Without it, I am rootless. With it,
whether I’m in Paris or elsewhere, I’m home.” (Photo by Shirley Nadeau)
