Metropolis remains epic after 90 years

Musicians of the Orchestre symphonique de Qu├ębec, conducted by Gabriel Thibaudeau, provided the soundtrack for the 1927 German silent movie Metropolis. In this scene, giant whistles blow to indicate the end of a shift for the underground workers.

Metropolis, a pioneering silent science fiction film made nearly a century ago, is a fascinating, complex film. On the surface, it is about the lower class rebelling against the upper class, while in reality, it is also about control, love, self-discovery and finding common ground between two parties.
