Happy Hanukkah from the QCT!

Happy Hanukkah from the QCT!

QCT staff with input from Susan Saul

This year, Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, begins at sunset on Dec. 14 and lasts for eight days.

Each successive night of the holiday, a candle is added to the menorah. Hanukkah celebrates the restoration of religious freedom following a victory by the Maccabees and the subsequent rededication of the Temple, during which oil for the menorah miraculously lasted eight days, though there was only enough for one.

Interestingly, one of the few religious laws associated with Hanukkah is that women must refrain from work while the candles are illuminated.

Happy Hanukkah to all those celebrating!
