FROM THE WELLNESS CENTRE: Community comes together to celebrate and inspire volunteerism
Submitted by Elise Holloway, volunteer co-ordinator, Jeffery Hale Community Partners
In a heartwarming celebration of community spirit and selfless service, more than 85 volunteers of Jeffery Hale Community Partners (JH Partners) gathered on May 8 for the annual Volunteer Appreciation Event, hosted this year at CEGEP Champlain-St. Lawrence. Over the past year, 300 JH Partners volunteers gave over 5,100 hours back to the community through the Wellness Centre, wellness activities at Saint Brigid’s Home and the Community Christmas Hamper Campaign.
The evening was a resounding success, filled with music, food and gratitude. Guests were treated to live entertainment by CEGEP Champlain-St. Lawrence student rock band What the Heck, mouthwatering appetizers provided by La Baratte and lively conversation among like-minded community members. The event also featured door prizes donated by generous local sponsors, including Lovjoy Pilates, the Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph, Phil’s Fish & Chips, the Morrin Centre, Bardou Fleuriste and La Danse des Savons.
Richard Walling, executive director of JH Partners, thanked those present, emphasizing that “No matter your role – whether driving community members to medical appointments, helping with the Hamper Campaign, or spending time with a resident at Saint Brigid’s – volunteers make a profound difference in our community.”
He also emphasized the importance of fostering volunteerism among youth, giving special recognition to students from Champlain–St. Lawrence’s Getting Involved class. “Not only did they volunteer in community projects throughout the winter session, but they also played a key role in planning the appreciation event itself.”
In my work as a volunteer co-ordinator since 2021, I am grateful to be able to witness firsthand the energy and enthusiasm of volunteers. All volunteers have the power to create momentum and inspire positive change.
If you’ve ever considered volunteering, now is the time. Not only does volunteering help others, it also brings joy and fulfillment to those who give. There are involvement opportunities available, especially occasionally driving and accompanying community members to medical appointments. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, can make a lasting impact.
