EQLC Graduates Adult Learners

The Eastern Québec Learning Centre has adult learners in a variety of programs and students graduate throughout the year. Traditionally, an outing is organized at this time of year to say goodbye for the summer to the students in General Education, thus providing an occasion for all students and staff at the Centre to enjoy a special day together.

On June 4, some 40 students and staff headed off to the Baie-de-Beauport for a day of activities. The Baie-de-Beauport site underwent major improvements for the Ville de Québec's 400th anniversary celebrations in 2008 and now has an attractive visitors' centre and patio area close to the enormous beach. We were blessed with a glorious summer day and enjoyed football and volleyball on the beach, lots of splashing in the cool waters of the St. Lawrence, relaxing on the beach and canoe outings on the water.

Students from the Secretarial Studies and Bilingual Hotel Receptionist programs joined the students from General Education for the day. Students in the Health Assistance and Nursing program had to pass on the activity as they were in the middle of an internship session. Centre Director Bruce Willett presented a number of awards to deserving students at our picnic lunch.
The Dorothy O'Brien/Quebec City Women's Club bursaries for deserving students went to Nathalie Bisson, Geneviève Rouleau, Spina Kamfwa, and John Vienneau. The Dave Blinco Award for perseverance in studies, respect and concern for others and participation in school life was awarded to Christian Robbins Letendre, while the Paulette Picard Award for a student demonstrating Humanity, Caring and Compassion was awarded to Francine Ouellet.

Adults come to the Learning Centre to complete their high school, obtain CEGEP or other prerequisites, to take professional training programs that allow them to enter or re-join the job market and to upgrade their English or French language skills.

The EQLC offers its congratulations to them and to all the adult students who have taken advantage of the Learning Centre to pursue their educational dreams. We celebrate the effort required and the successes they have achieved.
