LEGION REPORT: Veterans recognized at Quebec City tribute
Submitted by Jean Gervais, communications manager, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 265
Nearly 1,000 graves of veterans from the Quebec City region were decorated with a small maple leaf flag on Oct. 28 to pay tribute to these men and women at the beginning of the commemoration period leading up to Remembrance Day, Nov. 11.
According to Gérard Trudeau of Branch 265 of the Royal Canadian Legion, who is responsible for the Poppy Campaign that began at the end of October (Editors’ note: see separate story in this edition), representatives of the branch visited the Saint-Charles and Notre- Dame de Belmont cemeteries as part of this initiative.
This project to honour fallen heroes is an initiative of Réal Dumas, president of the funeral committee of Branch 265. The committee is tasked with honouring the careers and courage of veterans at funerals, in agreement with the families of the deceased.
