SLC raises $3,820 for Leucan Shaved Head Challenge

For the 10th consecutive year, CEGEP Champlain–St. Lawrence (SLC) participated in the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge, despite the current COVID-19 enforced isolation. This year’s event was held on April 23.

Pursuing their usual success in fundraising, three students and a staff member collected $3,820 and had their heads shaved in front of a “virtual” cheering crowd via Facebook Live.

Chances are prior to the pandemic most Canadians would not have been able to identify Yves Giroux in a police line-up. Probably most still couldn’t put a face to the man who has been Canada’s Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) since September 2018.

Simons not rushing to open stores

While many merchants in Quebec were allowed to reopen their doors this week, others were in less of a rush to get back to business.

La Maison Simons, for one, won’t open its nine stores in Quebec until May 19. Retailers with exterior-door access were allowed to open on May 4.

Mother’s Day was first celebrated in the United States in 1908 on the second Sunday in May, when Anna Jarvis from Grafton, West Virginia, began a campaign to have it recognized as a holiday.

The current COVID-19 situation means uncertain times for everyone, especially for families with young children. Routine things have become a big challenge for parents, like making a doctor’s appointment for a baby or following the recommended schedule of vaccines.

English school boards want to reopen on their own terms

Quebec’s English school boards have told the provincial government that they plan to make their own decisions with regard to the planned reopening of elementary schools later this month.

No graduation ceremonies for high schools, CEGEPs or universities

On April 28, Premier François Legault announced that children attending elementary schools and daycare centres would be making a gradual return to class, starting on May 11.
