Eating out is supposed to provide a pleasurable break from the chore of cooking. However, in recent decades food culture has grown to epic proportions and local food is the fad. It isn’t just about satisfying one’s hunger but about having a sensorily and aesthetically pleasing culinary experience and getting out for a night on the town. 

Club Musical ends 125th anniversary celebrations on a high note

The last concert of the 2015-2016 season of the Club Musical de Québec was an absolute, three-star treat – with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra of San Francisco directed by Nicholas McGegan, internationally acclaimed Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, and German countertenor Andreas Scholl.

From winter to spring

While sitting on the balcony enjoying the warmth of the sun on my face last weekend, I quickly forgot the rigours of the long winter. A pair of crows flying across the clear blue sky reminded me that summer will soon be here. Maple trees are sprouting leaves to provide shade for birds’ nests.  

Military houses in Sainte-Foy to be razed for new armoury complex

After almost a decade of prevarication, some forty shabby-looking military houses and apartment buildings lining Boulevard Hochelaga behind the shopping centres in Sainte-Foy are soon to be demolished to make way for a new armoury for the 35th Combat Engineer Regiment.

Jules LETENDRE died on May 13, 2016, at the Centre Paul-Gilbert in Charny, in his 91st year. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Worwood and loving father of Glenn (Juliette Arsenault) and Sharon (Matthew Dowling); grandfather of Geoffrey, Kevin, Trevor and Julie, and great-grandfather of Sophie and Noah. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.

YWCA’s Great Plant Sale a great success

On May 21, the YWCA on Avenue Holland held its annual Jardin Pour Soi/Great Plant Sale. Over 2,000 herbs, flowers, vegetables and medicinal plants were on display for sale. For those who missed the event, another 2,000 plants will be on sale this coming Saturday, May 28.

Sculpting fantasies exposed at the Festival les Gosseux

While passing by antique shops on Rue Saint-Paul, I was drawn to a poster in a window: Festival les Gosseux s'Exposent. I tried to figure out the poster showing a wooden carving of an old man with something in his hands, sitting in a rocking chair.
