Les Violons Du Roy – King Arthur, a monument of Baroque music

The stage of the Palais Montcalm was rather crowded on May 10 as more than 60 musicians, choristers and soloists gathered to present Henry Purcell’s masterpiece, King Arthur, or the British Worthy (Z. 628), a work that is rarely performed in concert.

Special art for special students

Every two weeks a group of special needs students from Quebec High School meet in the Art Room of the Jeffery Hale Pavilion to work on their own special works of art.

Julie Boulianne arrives via the artists’ entrance at the Grand Théâtre dressed street casual, hair tousled and make-up free – about as undiva-like as can be. When her tiny dog Yuki bursts from her arms, there’s just a hint of the international opera star, who is preparing to play Rosina in Rossini’s ever-popular The Barber of Seville.

Library to be renamed in honour of Claire Martin

The Saint-Jean-Baptiste library, housed in the former St. Matthew’s Anglican Church on Rue Saint-Jean, will possibly soon be renamed the Bibliothèque Claire-Martin. At a public municipal meeting held on April 19, those in attendance expressed their approval of the name change for this branch of the Bibliothèque de Québec.

Opéra de Québec delivers a delightful Barber of Seville

Le Barbier de Séville or The Barber of Seville as it is more familiarly known, is the most frequently performed of Gioachino Rossini’s operas as well as his masterpiece. Composed by Rossini 200 years ago, it has stood the test of time and remains hugely popular to this day.

The Quebec Art Company, the city's renowned English-language theatre group, is staging the moving masterpiece by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice next spring (2018). The QAC has produced more than 60 high-quality dramatic and musical performances over 35 years.

The 629 Air Cadet Squadron’s 60th anniversary year comes to a close

On May 13, Squadron 629 Kiwanis-Sillery Royal Canadian Air Cadets brought their 60th anniversary celebrations to a close with a cocktail party and dinner at the Pierre-Bertrand Military Complex. On hand was the La Musique des Voltigeurs, the regimental band of the Primary Reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Forces.

Having a small lake or pond in my backyard, I have the privilege of observing many species of waterfowl. Ducks and geese often stay for one night, giving them time to rest and eat before they continue their journey. To observe these beautiful birds I must be outside fairly early and be very discreet.

Edward Godin welcomed to the BC Lion’s den

On May 8, 2017 Edward Godin was chosen to play for the BC Lions, picked at number 42 overall for the CFL draft.

This announcement came exactly five years after the same date on which he had been chosen to play for Team Canada.
