The Laurier Palace Theatre Fire, January 9, 1927


A small fire with tragic results that occurred in a movie theatre in Montreal on Sunday, January 9, 1927, was also known as "the saddest fire" or the Laurier Palace Theatre "crush." The fire, reportedly caused by a discarded cigarette which had been smouldering beneath the floorboards, started in early afternoon.

BRYSON, Ursula 1925 - 2012

Ursula Theresa Bryson, daughter of the late Julia Sponza and the late John-Henry Bryson, died peacefully at the age of 87 years and 10 months on December 31, 2012, at CHUL. She lived in Quebec City.

She leaves to mourn her sister Stella (the late Henry Lemelin) as well as many nephews and nieces, cousins, great-nephews and nieces, great-great-nephews and nieces, and well-loved friends.

DONNISON, Maureen (née Byrne) 1938-2013

Mrs. Maureen Byrne, wife of the late Michael Donnison, died at CHUL on January 2, 2013, at the age of 74. She lived in Quebec City.

Funeral arrangements were by Lépine Cloutier Ltée. The family received condolences at the Funérarium Lépine-Cloutier, 1025, route de l'Église, Québec, QC, G1V 3W1, on Monday and Tuesday, January 7 and 8.

ROURKE, Joyce (1921-2013)


Passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 2 at the age of 91, at Cairnsmore Place nursing home in Duncan, B.C., formerly of Toronto and Quebec City and long-time employee of Sears Canada. Wife of Bruce Rourke (deceased).

LAWSON, Mary (McAllister) 1917-2012

Mrs. Mary McAllister, wife of the late Arthur Lawson, daughter of the late Helena Danis and the late Lawrence McAllister, passed away at St Brigid's Home on December 28, 2012, at the age of 95 years. Mary was originally from Montreal.

A liturgy was held on Friday, January 4, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of

When referred to an ophthalmologist for surgery to correct cataracts, my optometrist told me that my sight would be as good as it was thirty years ago. I underwent surgery on my right eye on December 18 with Dr. Caroline Lajoie. When the bandage was removed the following day, I could already see a big difference.
