Ancienne-Lorette swimmer named to Commonwealth Games team


A 22-year old woman from Ancienne-Lorrete has been selected to the Canadian swim team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, scheduled for October 3 to 14 in Delhi, India.

Capitales’ Cate Pitcher of the Week

It's getting to be an old song, but Les Capitales de Quebec enjoy hearing it.

For the fourth consecutive week and the seventh time this season, a pitcher for Les Capitales has been named Can-Am League Pitcher of the Week.

The winner this time is Troy Cate, who shined in two separate appearances last week. This is the second time in three weeks Cate has won the award.

CQSB approves 2010-11 budget

The Central Quebec School Board gave formal approval to its 2010-11 operating budget Friday evening. There were no members of the public present for the vote, which was unanimous in favor.

The budget calls for $46 million in operating expenses and another $3.6 million for capital improvements and other expenditures.

Snowboard film at Ozone Pub

Snowboard film maker Absinthe Films will kick off the 2010 Sphere of Influence North American Tour with the World Premiere of NOW/HERE at the Ozone Bar, 2800 Boulevard Laurier, Ste. Foy, Friday, August 27, at 8:30 p.m. Doors will open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10, with $2 from every ticket sold being donated to local charities and the Protect Our Winters Foundation.

Gaelic football Saturday on the Plains of Abraham

City youth will get an education Saturday in Ireland's most popular sport - Gaelic football - courtesy of Les Patriotes de Quebec. The team is inviting youths 12 to 17 to participate in an initiation match, which will serve as a kickoff of sorts for this year's fifth annual Quebec Celtic Festival.The festival itself won't begin until September 10.

AMI-Quebec offers free caregiver support

AMI-Quebec is sponsoring free support by telephone for English-speaking caregivers across Quebec.

The support is available to caregivers who are experiencing difficulty coping with the mental illness of a loved one. Self-help support groups are non-judgmental, safe and confidential forums where people come together to deal with shared concerns and problems.
