Making a pilgrimage to Saint-Pierre-de-Lamy

In the early 1900s, Pierre Ouellet, a native of Saint-Cyprien east of Rivière-de-Loup, left his village and, with the help of his wife and their 12 sons, undertook the clearing of land east of Lac Témiscouata, thus founding a new municipality that is now called Saint-Pierre-de-Lamy. The name Saint-Pierre comes from Ouellet’s first name but also evokes the patron Saint Peter.

APPEAL: 35 Years of English conversation, and still going strong

This past June, some 80 people packed into Charlesbourg’s Le Grand Bourg restaurant to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the founding of APPEAL, an acronym for Apprentissage, Pratique, Perfectionnement et Enrichissement de l’Anglais à Loisir.

The Quebec Capitales of the Can-Am Baseball League are in the final stretch of the 2019 season.

As of Aug. 18, the Capitales are in last place, one game behind Ottawa and six games behind the Rockland Boulders, who are in fourth position and the last playoff spot.

Remparts win first pre-season game as they trim the roster

The Quebec Remparts got their first win of the 2019 pre-season as they edged the Rimouski Océanic, 3-1, in Rimouski on Aug. 18.

After a goal by Luka Verreault of Océanic, the Remparts got their first goal in the second period from the stick of Nathan Gaucher. Derek Plouffe-Dubé and Japanese player Yu Sato completed the score for the Remparts.

Rouge et Or to defend the RSEQ title in their 25th season

The Université Laval Rouge et Or football team will be working hard to defend their title in the Réseau du Sport Étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and the Vanier Cup, won on their home turf last season, in the team’s 25th year.

Two Quebec women’s rugby teams are provincial champions

On a hot and humid Saturday, Aug. 17, Rugby Québec held the provincial championships at the Académie Saint-Louis field in Quebec City. The Club de Rugby de Québec (CRQ), which hosted the event, had their three women’s teams in different finals.

Jesse Cooke takes Domaine Forget by storm

Canadian acoustic guitar virtuoso Jesse Cooke gave an outstanding performance at the Domaine Forget in Saint-Irénée on Aug. 17.

Accompanied by his band of four, he played his signature combination of flamenco, jazz and many forms of world music.
