Saint Brigid’s Guild draws hundreds for fall sale

Hundreds wait in line with great anticipation for the Saint Brigid’s Guild’s annual fall sale at Église Saint Charles Garnier in Sillery. “I came at midnight last night and there were 40 to 50 people with chairs and tents set up, waiting in line,” volunteer and doorman John O’Connor explained. The next sale is planned for May 16. Mark your calendars!

An introduction to the Rose, Shamrock and Thistle

Symbols of Quebec City’s English, Irish, and Scottish populations are brought together in the title of Villa Bagatelle’s latest exhibition, the Rose, the Shamrock, and the Thistle. The exhibition, which carries a few artefacts from each community, is best suited for the uninitiated. The exhibit is organized into five themed rooms.

Big tobacco invests big money in small Quebec City company

The board of directors at a small biopharmaceuti-cal company in Quebec City recently approved an investment of nearly $16 million from Phillip Morris International. The company, Medicago Inc., will use the investment from the inter-national tobacco company to pursue its development of a vaccine for the Avian flu.
