The COVID-19 pandemic changed the whole world – including sports – this spring. Like other colleges and universities, CEGEP Champlain–St. Lawrence (SLC) had to find a different way to honour its student-athletes.

Pro-Am Gagné-Bergeron, tennis and cycling events on hold

The organizers of the 12th annual Pro-Am Gagné-Bergeron, which was to take place at the Videotron Centre on Aug. 6, have officially cancelled the event for 2020.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with the Quebec government’s ban on large-scale events until Aug. 31, there was no possible way this popular fundraising hockey game could be held.

The St. Patrick’s High School football program is producing more and more players who are being recruited by CEGEP football teams in the province of Quebec. The players all want to follow in the footsteps of Edward Godin, who currently plays for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.

Québec Capitales have different scenarios for the 2020 season

The Québec Capitales baseball team, along with the other 13 teams in the newly expanded Frontier League, are looking at different scenarios for the 2020 season, which has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a telephone interview with the QCT on April 18, team president Michel Laplante said the league is looking at June 15 to start the season.

Remparts players on NHL Central Scouting final list

Three players from the Quebec Remparts hockey team made it onto the final list of the Central Scouting Bureau of the National Hockey League (NHL). In total, 37 players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) are on the list for the NHL’s upcoming draft, which will be held online.

Desgagnés and Forteza named Rouge et Or Athletes of the Year

For the first time in 69 years, the annual Université Laval Rouge et Or sports gala was not a big, busy human event held on campus. This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic that has everyone isolated at home, the event had to be held online.

Over 500 student-athletes wore the red and gold colours of Université Laval sports teams in 2019-2020.

The COVID-19 pandemic has dashed the dreams of two of St. Patrick’s High School’s seven basketball teams. The two had hoped to win a Réseau du Sport Étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) banner for the 2019-2020 season, in the Québec–Chaudière-Appalaches conference.
