Pierre and Marie Curie in the laboratory (circa 1904), demonstrate the experimental apparatus used to detect the ionization of air, and hence the radioactivity of samples of purified ore, which led to their discovery of radium.

This street is named after French physicist Pierre Curie (1859-1906), a pioneer in crystallography, magnetism, piezoelectricity and radioactivity.
