Rue Elgin is located in Old Quebec between Rue d’Auteuil and Rue Saint-Stanislas below Rue Saint-Jean.

Rue Elgin was named in honour of the Scotsman James Bruce (1811-1863), the 8th Earl of Elgin and the son-in-law of Lord Durham.

As a student of Eton and then Oxford, the young man displayed the brilliance that sparked his later reputation as an inspired orator, cultured humanist and judicious administrator.
