Rally calls for end to Anticost oil exploration

Some 100 people gathered in front of the National Assembly last Friday, in spite of the winter weather, to call for an end to oil and gas exploration on Anticosti Island.

The large island at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River near Gaspé has been managed by the province since 1974. A 221-square-mile stretch of the island has been designated a national conservation park since 2001.
