High School Performing Arts Festival

The Central Quebec School Board is gearing up for another Performing Arts Festival to celebrate the talents of our young performing artists.

Forty-one works of art by the late Sir Jean-Charles Bertrand Forbes (1921-2010) were exhibited for sale at the Quebec Garrison Club on March 19 to benefit the Foundation of the Canadian Legion (Branch #265 Lt. Col. J. Charles Forbes, RMWO).

Thursday, March 3, 8 :00 p.m. - Aurian Haller's poetry book launch at the Morrin Centre, 44 chaussée des Écossais. Aurian Haller is an award-winning poet and singer-songwriter. He is the lead singer in the Aurian Haller Band, whose unique blend of folk, rock and jazz is supported by Haller's haunting lyrics.

Jeux d’Archet Suzuki students perform benefit concerts to help others

At the Noella benefit concert last Saturday, February 21, young students from the Jeux d'Archet Suzuki (JAS) music school raised $460 for refugees in need. The talented instrumentalists played violin and cello solos while tugging at heart strings.

Not only do students learn music at JAS, they become well-versed in helping others.

George Beverly Shea receives Lifetime Achievement Award

George Beverly Shea, or “Bev” as he was familiarly known, received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy Awards ceremony held on February 13, just 12 days after his 102nd birthday.

Bev must be living right and keeping good company, having been with the Reverend Billy Graham on most of his Evangelical Crusades over the past 60 years. Rev. Graham, too, is still going strong at age 93.

If you have ever attend-ed a presentation by the Quebec Symphony Orchestra then you have surely seen this person. John Van Bockern was a member of the orchestra from 1962 until his retirement in 2002. He was the principal clarinetist.
