We really need your help! Christmas Hamper Campaign Update

As you probably know, your Community Christmas Hamper Campaign has now switched into high gear. Fund raising events are going forward, food is being ordered, boxes of non perishable items are starting to fill up around town and many of you have already sent in generous donations to campaign headquarters.

Last year, we were able to raise over $20,000, with which we were able to help fill some 600 boxes that were delivered to over 200 families.

Economic experts tell us that Quebec City seems to have escaped unscathed from the recession that hit most of North America this past year. This, however, is small consolation to folks in our community who are out of a job or whose social benefits have taken a hit or who are wondering how to pay for next month's medicine.

We haven't yet solved the problems experienced by those living below the poverty line. But each year since 1996, the Community Christmas Hamper Campaign has made a little dent. It has provided a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and a sense of holiday cheer to families in need that they might not otherwise have enjoyed.

Donations, even small ones, make it possible to fill all those boxes. At present, donations are running a little behind last year's levels. So if you haven't already done so, we hope you will be generous and add us to your Christmas list.

And if you have a few hours to spare on December 19th, we still need more drivers and folks with strong backs. The smile that greets you after you ring the door bell will warm you for the rest of the holiday.

You can reach us at Christmas Hamper Headquarters, 418-684-5333 ext.1580.

All the volunteers on the organizing committee thank you for your warm generosity and your continued support and we wish you a Christmas season filled with wonder and much joy.
