Eight out of Ten for Lions Golf Team

The St. Lawrence Lions golf team won their eighth provincial title in the last 10 years last Sunday, at the QSSF Golf Provincial Championships which took place at the Stoneham Golf Club.

Fred Colgan's proteges started the championships with a 20 stroke lead over Cegep de l'Outaouais. In the first round of the 2-round tournament, the Lions increase their lead by 27 shots, bringing home a combined score of 299.

But the Lions were not done there. On Sunday, they shot a school-record 284, 2 shots under-par. All five members of the team contributed to this score, Samuel Rochette (75-68 :143), Philippe Laforce, (73-70 : 143) Charles Boivin (74-72 : 146), Charles Côté (80-74 :154) et Joël Doyon (77-78 :155).

In the individual standings, Samuel Rochette was able to overcome an 8 stroke deficit before the weekend's 2 rounds by shooting a 74 on Saturday and a 68 on Sunday to win the gold medal in division 1, in a tie with Nicolas Fortin from Cegep Levis-Lauzon. Maxime Royer, also a Lion, won the gold medal in division 2.

Next stop for the St. Lawrence golfers, the CCAA National Championships that will be held October 13-16 in Windsor, Ontario. The Lions will be sending both a men's and women's team who both are aspiring to top honors. Anne-Catherine will be defending her individual title from last fall. Her teammate, Elyse Archambault, will help her represent the college in the team standings, but will also be one of her top rivals in the individual standings. On the men's side, Charles Boivin, Charles Côté, Joël Doyon, Philippe Laforce et Samuel Rochette will represent the Lions. Charles Côté will try to imporve on his fourth place finish last year.
