Quebec City is not quite the dusty prospecting town Edmonton was in the late 19th century, but as the base of operations for the mineral exploration company Virginia Mines, the city serves as the company's own "Gateway to the North." In 2004, Virginia made a discovery that would rival that of the Klondike over 100 years ago: almost 4 million ounces of gold east of James Bay.
