Caroline of Brunswick (Germany), wife of King George IV, was Princess of Wales from 1795 to Jan. 20, 1820, and queen consort of the United Kingdom from then until her death in August 1821, three weeks after the coronation of King George IV. She was never crowned as the king did not want his wife, from whom he had been estranged for many years, to become queen.
