The common house sparrow was introduced to North America from Europe in the mid-1800s.

Two men named Baptiste Leveliere, of Berthier and Jean Boutet, of St. Cuthbert in passing along the river near St. Sulpice on their way back from Montreal, ate some hemlock that they mistook for another plant usually eaten in this area. In an hour and a half, both were dead.
