This map shows the original proposed tunnel route passing under the tip of Île d’Orléans (dotted line) and the new proposed route (solid line) connecting Quebec and Lévis downtowns on the north and south shores.

The Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ) government has abandoned its plan to build a tunnel under the St. Lawrence River that would have passed under the tip of Île d’Orléans. The new proposed route, made public last week, would connect the downtown districts of Quebec City and Lévis. The mayors of both cities have announced they are in favour of the change.
