The history of the Quebec Bridge spans over a century

The Promenade Samuel-de-Champlain near the Quai des Cageux was packed on September 23. Celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Quebec Bridge was in full swing all day. Children played on bouncy castles, families enjoyed picnics and passersby admired the different Quebec Bridge sculptures.

In search of a country’s soul on Île d’Orléans

What is it that creates a strong sentiment of attachment to a place for those that live there? During several decades of life on Île d’Orléans I have come to appreciate the advantage of time in the equation of attachment.

OBITUARY: Margaret (Sutton) BLANCHET, 1922-2017

Mrs. Margaret (née Sutton) Blanchet, wife of the late Georges Blanchet, daughter of the late Mable Greene and the late Cornelius Sutton, passed away on September 9, 2017, at the age of 95. She lived at Saint Brigid’s Home in Quebec City.

OBITUARY: Ruth Priscilla “Sally” SEIFERT, 1930-2017

“Sally” Seifert passed away on September 14, 2017, at the age of 87, at Saint Brigid’s Home, Quebec City. She was the daughter of the late Gustave Edward Seifert and the late Clara Alice Amy. She leaves to mourn her family and friends.

The family would especially like to thank the staff of Saint Brigid’s Home for their loving care.

Making music together at the Wellness Centre with Mini Menuet

The first of four drop-in guided workshops designed to engage and develop children’s fine motor skills through the use of maracas, dancing scarves and rhythm sticks, took place on September 25, in the Wellness Centre’s Community Art Room in the Jeffery Hale Pavilion.

A perfect day for the Global Energy Races

The weather was perfect on Sunday, September 24, for the 500 Quebecers participating in the Global Energy Race presented by Bon Matin bread. 

The first man and woman to cross the finish line of the 10K race won all-expenses-paid trips to the 2018 edition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 

Canada Geese have put on their autumn colours

I am always happy to see my Canadian Geese in the spring, but every autumn I wonder where they and their family all go to spend the winter months. This year I may receive an answer.

"Rigoletto" and "Carmen" highlight the 2017-2018 Quebec City opera season

For its 34th season, the Opéra de Québec will stage two major works in new productions entirely conceived and realized in Quebec City. In October, Rigoletto, Verdi’s first great international success, and next May, the emblematic opera of the French repertoire, Bizet’s Carmen.
