Fourth Avenue Trio takes audience on a musical voyage

The Fourth Avenue Trio, comprised of Emma Ahern, Kasia Borkowska and Peter Calkins, took the audience of over 60 people at the Morrin Centre’s College Hall on a musical voyage through the 17th- and 18th-century Baroque period. The musicians performed on May 15 to introduce the trio sonata compositional form.

Throughout the winter and spring, the Festival d’Été de Québec (FEQ) gave music enthusiasts a taste of what is to come this summer. For the third consecutive year, local bands and singers participated in the Apéros FEQ concert series, competing for a spot at the festival and a $7,000 bursary.

Local Sports Briefs: Edward Godin back at the CFL Lions training camp

St. Patrick’s High School graduate and former Rouge et Or player Edward Godin is back at the BC Lions training camp in Kamloops, B.C.

Godin, selected 42nd overall in the 2017 Canadian Football League draft, came back for one more season at Université Laval after getting cut at BC’s training camp last spring.

It’s lobster season in the Gaspé!

Lobster season is now underway in the Gaspé region. Lobster harvesting has been driving the economies of communities along the south shore of the Gaspé Peninsula since 1875.

Patricia O’Donnell passed away in Jeffery Hale Hospital, Quebec City, after a battle with cancer on February 20, 2018, at age 79. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, 1145 Avenue de Salaberry, Quebec City, on Saturday, June 2, at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery will immediately follow the funeral.

Historic regiments invade the Citadelle

Seventeenth-century soldiers and their families took over the Citadelle de Québec during the May long weekend.

More than 140 historical re-enactors from the United States and Canada participated in the sixth edition of the École du Soldat de la Nouvelle-France/New France Infantry Recruit School hosted by the Royal 22e Régiment Museum.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle marry in St. George’s Chapel

Did you get up early Saturday morning to watch the wedding of the century – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, England?

Quebec City resident Karen Hilchey, along with visiting friends from the Beauce, got up at 4 a.m. to tune in to CBC television coverage of the big event. She said she had set her alarm, but was awake before it went off.
