Services extended to veterans and families

With Roméo Dallaire as the guest of honour, the Valcartier Family Centre (VFC) announced the expansion of services to veterans and their families on March 11 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 265, LCol. J. Charles Forbes, RMWO, on Boulevard Wilfrid-Hamel.

Rehearsals are well underway for the Quebec Art Company’s production of Opening Night by Norm Foster, a hilarious play-within-a-play directed by J.P. Chartier.

Cirkopolis flips through town

Cirque Éloize gave three performances of Cirkopolis at Le Capitole on March 3-5, a show that has been performed by Cirque Éloize all over North America nearly 400 times since its creation in 2012.   

$145,000 raised for Leucan at the Stoneham 12-Hour Ski Challenge

Last Saturday, for the eighth consecutive year, Stoneham Mountain Resort hosted the Leucan 12-Hour Ski Challenge. Over 110 teams raised $145,000 to help children diagnosed with cancer and their families. Many teams raised money in memory of friends and family, others simply did it for the cause.

The Celtic cross on Rue McMahon

This beautiful Celtic cross in Artillery Park on Rue McMahon in Quebec City was erected in 2000 near the site of the original St. Patrick’s Church, the first Irish parish in Canada. 

St. Lawrence Lions regular season champions again

The St. Lawrence Lions hockey team clinched the regular season championship, thanks to their two road wins in the last weekend of the regular season. They first defeated the Thetford Filons in a 4-3 shootout on Friday, March 4, and then beat the Alma Jeannois 6-3 on Sunday, March 6.

Nanotechnology: the invisible revolution at the Musée de la Civilisation

On March 8, the Musée de la Civilisation opened its exhibit, Nanotechnology: the invisible revolution.  Featuring elements inspired by science fiction, comic books and today’s products and gadgets, it will have visitors wondering about the meaning and impact of infinitely small technology on daily life.  

Du Carnaval to Carnival: cruising to thaw out!

It’s March 2, and I’m lounging on the deck of the Carnival Fantasy, having just returned from Paradise Beach in Cozumel, Mexico. It’s 25 C. I’m a teacher and I’m on Spring Break, taking a break from winter while waiting for spring!
