RDV2017: Tall Ships Regatta coming to Quebec City

Quebec City and Levis are gearing up to receive some 40 Tall Ships that will be sailing in Canadian waters to honour the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation in 2017.

Université Laval scientist awarded $3.99 million grant to develop a vaccine against HIV/AIDS ​ ​

Dr. Gary Kobinger of Université Laval has been awarded a grant for $3.99 million from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to work on a vaccine to prevent HIV infection. This three-year grant will allow Dr. Kobinger and his lab to collaborate with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) with the goal of advancing a potential vaccine to clinical testing in human volunteers.

Black Rock commemoration held in Montreal

John O'Connor and I drove to Montreal on May 29 to join the march to the Black Rock, the large stone which commemorates the 6,000 Irish immigrants who perished in the fever sheds that were in that area in 1847.

The Irish Commemorative Stone

The Irish Commemorative Stone (also known as the Black Rock) monument in Montreal commemorates the deaths of 6,000 Irish immigrants to Canada during the famine immigration.

Officially named the Irish Commemorative Stone, it is more commonly known as the Black Rock.

Ensemble Vocal Dal Segno concert

The Ensemble Vocal Dal Segno, directed by Guillaume St-Gelais, gave a magnificent concert at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity on June 3. The 29-voice choir, many of them members of Quebec City’s English-speaking community, were joined by soloists Jessica Latouche (soprano), Gabriel Provencher (tenor) and Hugo Laporte (baritone), as they performed Schumann’s Missa Sacra, Op.

St. Patrick’s High rewards its best 2016-17 athletes

For students, June means the end of the school year is approaching, and year-end exams and summer vacations are coming soon. It also means that it’s the time of the year to recognize the best athletes of the school year which is what St. Patrick’s High School recently did at their annual sports gala.

Fighting Irish rugby senior, bantam girls' teams win RSEQ banners

St. Patrick’s High School had two girls’ rugby teams this spring.

The Green and White had a team in bantam for Rugby Sevens while the senior team played Rugby X (10 players).

After a winter of riding classes, often in a cold arena; after grooming, preparing, practising and repeating the same patterns over and over again, the sun finally came out to shine at the first Association Performance Équestre de Québec (APEQ) competition of the year, held at the Beaulieu Stables in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures on June 4 .
