Canada Post workers set strike deadline for June 2

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has made a final offer to Canada Post in the hopes of negotiating a settlement.
The union has also given the notice, required by the Canada Labour Code, of its intent to strike if there is no settlement following its final offer. The union will be in a legal position to strike on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

The VEQ Holds Annual General Meeting

More than seventy-five people attended the 30th Annual General Meeting of the Voice of English-speaking Quebec last week. Held in the Coin soleil room of the Jeffery Hale Hospital on May 26, the event featured guest speakers Quebec City Deputy Mayor, Michelle Morin-Doyle, and Charles Taker of the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages.

Community Strengths Showcased in Community Forum

The Coin soleil room at the Jeffery Hale Hospital was the location for the first annual Community Forum on May 25. With an overall objective to highlight the health programmes and initiatives in place for the community, the Forum extended invitations not only to the English-speaking community, but also organizations within the Francophone community.

On May 28, Champlain-St. Lawrence College celebrated over three hundred graduates.Diplomas were handed out in five programmes: Business; Creative Arts, Literature and Languages; Health Sciences; Pure and Applied Sciences; and Social Sciences.

The Association of Administrators of English Schools of Quebec (AAESQ) and the Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA) held their annual Spring Conference, on May 26-28, 2011, in Gatineau, Quebec.
