Thank you for your generosity to the Community Christmas Hamper Campaign

The 22nd annual Community Christmas Hamper Campaign has come to an official close. Once again, thanks in no small way to the huge number of volunteers, it was a resounding success. This year, close to 200 volunteers gave of their time to ensure the delivery of hampers to more than 200 homes in need.

Pick-a-Book reading adventures at the Morrin Centre

Have you ever wondered what snowmen really get up to at night? During the Pick-a-Book activity at the Morrin Centre on Jan. 20, the children found out with the winter-themed book Snowmen at Night, by Caralyn Buehner. This fictional adventure sees all the neighbourhood snowmen gathered at the nearby moonlit park, sipping “ice cold cocoa made by snowmen mothers.”

Winter Carnival candle campaign enters final stretch

Since last November, the duchesses have been working hard to promote Winter Carnival. They completed the final stretch over the weekend of Jan. 20, as the campaign of the bougie (the iconic candle) came to an end on Sunday. All of their efforts and sales increased their odds at being crowned queen of the 64th Winter Carnival.

What to expect at the 64th Winter Carnival

Quebec City loves winter, cold and snow, and that’s never more true than during Carnival time. Besides the ever-present Bonhomme Carnaval, the premiere of BlackOut and the return of Phelipe Soldevila and his fellow artists at the Ice Palace, this year’s Winter Carnival has a lot to offer. A whopping 40 per cent of the program is new!

Quebec City’s ice cross downhill skater, Steven Cox, had the best weekend of his short career last weekend in St. Paul, Minnesota, site of the first Red Bull Crashed Ice event of the season.

On this very snowy night in Cape Breton, 20 players in red were getting warmed up for a regular season game in the Quebec Junior Major Hockey League, in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

High school basketball action

The Quebec High School Blazers senior boys have an important game on Jan. 25.

The Blazers (6-1) face the undefeated Carcajous from the Séminaire des Pères-Maristes (5-0). Tip-off is at 8:15 p.m. The Carcajous have two more games to play than QHS.
