Festival jazzes up Lévis next weekend

The festival scene moves south across the river next weekend with the fourth edition of the Festival du Jazz Etcetera Lévis. The event will take place on several stages in Lévis starting August 12 at a substantially lower cost than Quebec City's recently concluded Festival d'Ete.

Iroquoians who pre-dated the arrival of Jacques Cartier grew their crops, among them tobacco and corn, in circles.

"It was always in a circle," said Jacinthe Coté, co-ordinator at Parc Cartier-Brébeuf National Historic Site in Limoilu. "Cartier planted his vegetables in lines."

New Shannon water study irks residents

Even as Shannon residents are enjoying the benefits of a new water system, the results of a new study issued by l'Institut National de sante publique du Québec have stirred new unrest.

"They should help us," said Shannon resident Marie Paule Spieser Monday. "It started 30 years ago. We've known about it since 2000. We've had to fight.

Great Water Pistol Battle on the Plains of Abraham

This past Sunday afternoon, for the second year in a row, a local radio station put out the call to stage a Water Pistol Battle on the playing field in front of the Musée de Québec. And what a wild, wet battle it was! Some 1000 participants from far and near, old and young, loaded up their water pistols, rifles and cannons!
