Statistics Canada latest census reports more than 770,000 people 85 years of age or older are living in Canada as of 2016. This demographic group grew by 19 per cent since 2011, four times the rate of the overall population. The single fastest growing segment of the population, though, is centenarians – there are more than 8,200 fellow citizens 100 years or over living amongst us.
