OSQ opens the season with a magnificent concert

To open the 2018-2019 season, Fabien Gabel and the musicians of the Orchestre symphonique de Québec (OSQ) presented a concert of symphonic works by Russian composers Alexandre Borodine, Igor Stravinsky and Sergei Rachmaninoff on Sept. 19.

Sainte-Foy). This activity is free and so is parking in the hospital parking lot.

Find your voice with Vibrant Voices – Voix Vivantes!

Quebec city’s multilingual vocal ensemble, Vibrant Voices – Voix Vivantes, is recruiting new choristers. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Espace Saint-Michael, 1800 Chemin Saint-Louis in Sillery. They are conducted in both English and French.

Commemorative plaque placed at Jeffery Hale Hospital

To mark the 150th anniversary of the Jeffery Hale Hospital, the City of Quebec recently placed a plaque at the hospital’s main entrance. It honours the history of this caring institution and the man who brought it into being.

The bilingual plaque reads as follows:

Significant decrease in 2018-2019 CQSB tax bills

The Central Quebec School Board (CQSB) mailed out its 2018-2019 tax bills last week. I would imagine that by now most of those who pay their school taxes to the CQSB and reside in the Capitale-Nationale or Chaudières-Appalaches regions have witnessed the significant decrease from last year’s assessment.

The 28th annual Jeffery Hale-Saint Brigid’s Friends’ Foundation golf tournament may have been rained out, but it turned out to be the best ever fundraising event! 

Portuguese chicken comes to Sillery

Open since the end of June, the first Lio Festa restaurant, which specializes in tasty Portuguese chicken, is drawing hungry customers into its sunny location at the corner of Avenue Maguire and Rue de Bergerville in Sillery.

Owner-operator Perry Marcoux explained the simple and affordable “semi-rapid” concept of his new restaurant.

Habs beat Caps in pre-season match in Quebec City

Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals came to town on Sept. 20 and the visit of the 2018 Stanley Cup champions turned out to be just what the Montreal Canadiens needed to turn around their early pre-season fortunes.

Playing in front of a crowd of 11,300 at the Vidéotron Centre, the Habs dominated the Caps with a 5-2 victory, at one point holding a 4-0 lead over the visiting team.
