Soft-shoe dancers watch their competitors perform at the Vieux-Québec Féis.

Laval University's PEPS athletic centre echoed with the sounds of hundreds of hard shoes on Saturday, as Irish dancers from as far away as British Columbia gathered for the inaugural Vieux-Québec Féis.

Féis - pronounce d "fesh" - is a Gaelic word for "party" and describes a Celtic arts competition, usually bringing together musicians and dancers.
