Olympic Torch carried through Base Valcartier this past week

The olympic torch continues its way west toward the 2010 games in Vancouver after making stops last week in the Old City and at the Valcartier military base.

The torch then made stops in Trois Rivieres, Drummondville and Sherbrooke, among other Quebec locales this week before heading to the Montreal area.

Following up on my piece from this week, it has been widely reported that Alexander Ovechkin will receive a two game ban for his knee-on-knee hit on Carolina's Tim Gleason. As for Florida's Keith Ballard and his akward stick swinging incident, he will not receive any supplementary discipline, which as you all know, I firmly disagree with. 

Emotions Need To be in Check

Monday, November 30th was a strange evening indeed in the National Hockey League, highlighted by two bizarre and disturbing incidents. The first occurred when Alexander Ovechkin, the Washington Capitals star forward, laid out his knee on Carolina Hurricanes' blueliner Tim Gleason.

The Saint Lawrence Lions hockey team traveled to Sorel to take part in the second collegiate showcase. As defending champions of the first event held in Alma, expectations were high and the objective of returning home with a second collegiate banner ranked highly in the minds of both players and staff.

At the Quarter Pole

A quarter of the Habs' season has already passed us by. Optimism hardly abounds when we talk about the team and, with a mediocre 9-11 record, there is no reason it should. What conclusions can we draw now that we have hit the 20 game mark? Like any team hovering around .500, there are some positives.

However, for the moment, the negatives far outweigh the positives.

Laval one win away from championship game

The top-ranked Laval Rouge et Or are one win away from playing host to the Vanier Cup championship after easily beating the University of Montreal Carabins Saturday.

The locals scored on their first three possessions and never looked back en route to a 31-7 win and a seventh straight Dunsmore Cup title, in front of 13,852 fans.
