Quebec City athletes go for gold in Beijing

On August 2, most of the Canadian Olympic team will be leaving for Beijing. The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) has selected the 331 athletes who will be attending the games. According to the COC’s website, there are six athletes from the Quebec City region who will be competing in Beijing. For the 2004 Athens Olympics, there were eight.

Quebec youth win hockey gold

June was a month of celebration for 16 young hockey players; they won gold at the 25th annual Ottawa 67’s Minor Hockey Tournament. These eight- and nine-year-olds (all born in 1999) play AAA hockey for the Bulldog Association of Quebec. Jacob Simard of Everest Elementary and Ryan Massicotte of Holland Elementary are part of this team.

Cegep Champlain-St. Lawrence held its annual sports banquet last month. Athletes were honoured for their athletic talents as well as their academic performance.

The 2008 athlete of the year award was presented to Kathleen Keller.

World Hockey Championships to win attendance bronze

The IIHF World Hockey Championships in Quebec City and Halifax has been successful thus far in attracting hockey fanatics from around province, the country and the world. The tournament is poised to become the third-best attended IIHF World Hockey Championships ever, but will unlikely beat the record set in Prague in 2004.

Cegep Champlain St. Lawrence held its annual sports banquet last Thursday, May 1st. Athletes were honored for their athletic talents as well as their academic performance.

Cegep Champlain-St. Lawrence has found a solution to its hockey woes. The St. Lawrence Lions will be a member of the America East Hockey League (AEHL) and offer students a chance at completing their studies and playing a season of junior collegiate hockey.
