The story behind Rue Antoine-Fortier

Rue Antoine-Fortier is a short commercial street in Beauport off Rue Clemenceau, ending at the Cineplex Odéon movie theatre.

This street is named in honour of Antoine Fortier (1644-1707) who is the ancestor of the Fortier families of North America. Originally from Dieppe, France, Antoine Fortier arrived in New France (Quebec) about 1663 with his father Noël Fortier, who was probably a widower. They lived in Beauport until 1667, when they joined two friends to hunt seals in the St.
