Rowena Walsh died on Saturday, October 29 at age 89. She was born on October 11, 1927, in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, the youngest child of Elijah Mercer and Bertha Cameron. She was the beloved wife for 62 years of  the late Edward “Ted” P. Walsh (deceased November 3, 2013).

She was the cherished mother of Ann (Adi Kropfel), Brian (Angela Brown), Rosemary (Bruce Desarmia), Maureen (Terry Parent) and Robert (Brenda Vialoux), and the special “Nanny” to David Kropfel; Matthew, Erin, John, and Michael Walsh; Eric Desarmia; Christina (Otto Wramhed), Robert and Michael Parent; Elijah and Mercer Walsh. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her three sisters and five brothers.

Rowena lived most of her life in Quebec City, where she made many lifelong friends through her quick wit and caring nature. She adored her children and gave them many happy childhood memories, especially at Christmas and during summers in Murray Bay, Quebec. She doted on her grandchildren, treasuring their hugs and handmade gifts.

Rowena wasn’t keen on cooking, but singlehandedly catered cocktail parties for upwards of 40 people in her home. She enjoyed having lunches with her “pals,” which usually wrapped up in the evening. And although she didn’t work outside the home, Rowena was her husband’s most trusted and wisest advisor. A devout Catholic, Rowena also played piano and liked travelling, gardening, reading and bargain-hunting.

Rowena's funeral and burial was held on Saturday, November 5, at St. Patrick’s Church in Fallowfield, Ontario. In memoriam donations may be sent to St. Patrick’s Church, the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health and the Alzheimer’s Society.
